Bowling teams bring home Sectional Championships

The boys and girls bowling teams continue to show their dominance with each team earning a sectional title.

The girls bowling team dominated their season and sectionals with an undefeated record of 10-0. At Sectionals, the Lady Warriors brought home the top five spots in the singles with senior Kharese Battle in first, freshman Madison White in second, sophomore Autumn White in third, senior Haley Smith in fourth and senior Adelaja Koudou in fifth.

“The Warren Central Girls’ team has been the strongest in our conference for years. When we bowl, we do our best to practice for tougher competition and work on our teamwork,” senior Haley Smith said.

The boys were similarly successful at Sectionals and finished three bowlers in the top five. Senior Lavon Hampton claimed second, senior Garrett Cartwright third and sophomore Eric Smith fourth. The boys have also been victorious all season and have a 9-1 record.

“We can come in and take over an entire alley with people like Lavon Hampton and Garrett Cartwright. These guys put on a show for people and it is astonishing to see them throw strike after strike,” said junior Andrew Matchett.

While winning a sectional title is an accomplishment in itself, neither team plans to end their season anytime soon. Both teams plan to have a very strong state tournament run.

“We hope to advance both teams and individuals all the way to the State Finals,” said Coach Larry Williams.

Heading into the state tournament, the teams are practicing hard twice a week with each bowler working on a variety of skills that they believe need worked on.

“Practice is the time we get to know each other and start the team building process. Practice is different for each individual, the more advanced bowlers may have specific things they want to work on,” Larry Williams, head coach, said.

The two teams, under Williams, believe that being helpful, supportive teammates and enjoying themselves is the key to success. “Teammates must root for each other, help each other and support

each other. Without that, they are just individuals that think only of themselves,” Williams said.
