After an up and down season last year, the Warriors have a promising season ahead of them. The Lady Warriors returned nearly their entire starting lineup and will be coming in with experience in all positions.
“This year we have more confidence and hunger to win,” said junior Trinity McClendon.
They will be led by returning junior point guard Shaila Beeler. Beeler is a four star recruit and ranked 27th in the nation by ESPN. She averaged 14.1 points and 6.5 assist per game last season.
Seniors including Maray Bell and Shaniya Caldwell will also be contributing to the success of the team.
Junior Cydni Dodd, a national recruit, averaged 12 points and nearly seven rebounds a game last season.
The Lady Warriors started this season 3-0 for the second year in a row. They began the season with a win over New Castle 52-37. Sophomore K’Ja Talley led the team in scoring this game with 14 points. Beeler finished with 12 points, five assists and eight steals. The Lady Warriors played a defense-oriented game and finished with 18 total steals and forced 25 turnovers.
The Lady Warriors went on to defeat Mount Vernon 64-30. It was another defensive game for the team. Dodd led the team, putting up 22 points. Beeler recorded the first double-double for the team this season and had 14 points along with 10 assists.
In the third game of the season, the Lady Warriors pulled off a 52-51 win against Cathedral. Junior Trinity McClendon recorded 11 points in the game and two steals. Caldwell and
Talley each recorded two steals to add to the team’s total of 11 for the game.
The Lady Warriors’ next home game will be against Ben Davis tonight.
“We are expected to go far if we stay humble and keep working,” said McClendon.
