The Warrior softball team is going into sectionals with a 10 -13 record. The team played a tough schedule but has improved with each game.

“We are improving because we practice with a purpose, and we have an amazing coaching staff,” said senior Shelbie Stotts.

The practice and dedication to the game has paid off as the Warriors have competed with some of the best teams around Indiana.

“We are doing a lot better than people thought we would after last season,” said senior Hevon Williams.

The team has more than twice the amount of wins compared to last season, so the improvement is evident. So far, the team has blown out Brebeuf 12-2, as well as Lutheran 9-1.

        The Warriors have some
key conference victories so far.
With a 10-1 win over Pike and a 9-4 win over Carmel, the Warriors are currently 3-4 within the MIC. It was the softball team’s first time beating Carmel in 15 years.

Stotts currently leads the MIC in batting average at .667 and is ranked 14th in the state. Junior pitcher Megan Sanders is second in the MIC in strikeouts.

“The biggest key to the team’s success is the extra work they put in,” said coach Chris Norwood.

In the first round of sectionals, the team played Lawrence Central. The Warriors already beat the team in regular season 7-4, before beating them for a second time 8-6.

“In sectionals, the regular season means nothing. Every team is 0-0, and anything can happen. So our goal is to play every team the same, no matter what happened during the regular season,” Williams said.
