After placing fourth at team state, Warren Central wrestling concluded the team portion of their season. Although the team did not win the tournament, they pushed through every match with positivity and team chemistry.

“Losing in a close dual like that gets under your skin,” head coach Matthew Krulik said. “I am proud of how our guys responded. A loss is a powerful tool that creates positive steps forward. Tournament time is approaching and it’s a great opportunity for our wrestlers to perform at a high level.”

Individual standouts were junior David Pierson, junior Jajuan Anderson and senior Brice Coleman, they went undefeated and finished 4-0 at Team State. The Warriors came away victorious over Perry Meridian 34-21 and Carrol 54-6 before ultimately facing Cathedral and Brownsburg. While the Warriors did not come out on top of their last two competitors, they were able to secure a high finish before their tournament season.

In the North Montgomery Holiday Classic, the team was able to earn 234 points and placed first. Throughout the day, the Warriors faced Western High School in the semifinals and came out victorious, winning 57-6 advancing to finals where they defeated Hamilton Southeastern to win 55-6. With both the team and individuals performing well, the Holiday Classic was a strong event for Warren Central wrestling.

“Winning both North Montgomery and County was a positive step for our program heading into team state,” Krulik said. “Seeing our team battle for themselves and their team is awesome.”

On Jan. 8, the team hosted Carmel High School for their Senior Night and were able to come away with the 31-29 win over the Greyhounds. Seniors Brice Coleman and Andre Beatty and juniors Jujuan Anderson and Jevian Ross helped to secure the win for the Warriors with big wins against their opponents. In addition, shortly after their senior night win, the team also secured the program’s 11 MIC title at the MIC Wrestling Tournament.

“Inherently, [wrestling] is a one-on-one combat sport. Adding the team aspect to it provides our student-athletes the opportunity to not only fight for themselves, but also each other,” Krulik said.

On Jan. 10 seniors Autumn and Alise Terhune traveled to Edgewood for Girls Regionals and competed against other girls from around the state. Alise Terhune placed fourth in competition and Autumn Terhune placed first, securing a spot to state. Both girls work hard every day in and out of practice and hold themselves to an exceptionally high standard in order to be as successful as possible in a competitive sports world.

Last season, Alise Terhune was injured and was unable to compete with her team. This year, she has worked hard to try to meet her goal of winning her second high school state championship. This season Alise has won the 1st annual Lebanon All-Girls Tournament.

“Our seniors are a special group,” Krulik said. “We are honored to play a small role in their development as young men and women. The biggest impact they have had is through their results and actions.”
