The newest season of “Outer Banks,” a popular TV series that came out in 2020, was released on Netflix this fall. The season was predictable but good, but recent drama going on between cast members behind the scenes made the new season noticeably awkward at times.
It is about two groups in society, the Pogues and the Kooks, which are the poor and the rich. This show is similar to “The Outsiders” as far as it has two different groups in a small town representing the rich and the poor. However, “Outer Banks” is more of a show about friendship, loyalty, and adventure. At first, when the series started, season one was about finding the treasure that John B.’s dad left behind. The show took a turn when it got to season three, and then it was no longer about finding the treasure but protecting it and protecting Pope’s family treasure. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to protect the treasure because they were dealing with many adults who had more power and money than this group of teenagers.
The cast of this series has chemistry both on-screen and off-screen, all being very good friends and some even dating but breaking up. All of this ties into the new season of “Outer Banks” season four. During the filming of season four, Rudy Pankow, who plays the character JJ, got a girlfriend in real life, which caused a lot of tension between the cast because of his girlfriend. This caused a lot of drama both inside the series and in their everyday lives. Inside the series, JJ is dating Kiara, and they used to be very good friends. Outside of the series, however, all of that changed because of Pankow’s girlfriend. The actress playing Kiara, Madison Bailey, didn’t feel comfortable with their on-screen friendship, which caused them to use stunt doubles just for the two of them to hug or kiss each other in the show. This was very noticeable in the Netflix TV series, and a lot of fans didn’t like it. Because of the actions that were taken outside of the show, it caused the end of season four to be very unfair and left on a cliffhanger.
The series itself is good. To me, the show around season three toward the end got very predictable, but it was still good. The show represents how teenagers are and how they can be. In the show, there are incredible life lessons that teens and adults can learn from. The director did an amazing job at writing the script for teens, and the actors did a better job at bringing emotion and fun into the series and making it so much better to watch and enjoy by oneself or with family and friends.
“Outer Banks” season four was also good. Again, even though it was predictable it was still enjoyable and very entertaining to watch. However, it was disappointing toward the end because all the drama off-screen changed the ending of the actual TV series. Due to season four being left on a cliffhanger, another season will be coming out in 2025.
