Warren Central has a lot of new coaches and staff this school year, one of them being the new weights coach. Coach Chris Smith officially started on July 1. He has a lot planned for this school year, and he can't wait to implement it all.
“What I'm looking forward to this year is for kids to see their true potential,” Smith said.
This is the start of a new era for the weight room, especially since the weight room got redone over the summer. Students and athletes have a lot of new equipment and more opportunities now.
“My vision for the new weights program is, of course, bigger, faster, stronger, but also smarter, tougher and more mobile and flexible,” Smith said.
Before Coach Chris came to Warren Central, he was at Marion High School and worked there for two and a half years. He created a new program there, and by the time he left Marion High School, he was training up to 350 to 400 athletes on a daily basis.
Smith has only been at Warren a few months and is ready to grow this program and get all these athletes ready for the world.
“The energy we put into it is the energy we are gonna get out of it because energy can't be created or destroyed, it can only be transferred,” Smith said.
Junior Patience Fields is involved in wrestling, track and girls flag football, so she is always in the weight room.
“The new weight class is going pretty good,” Field said. “I feel like I'm one of the leaders of the class. I feel like he expects a lot out of me, so I make sure I rise to his expectations and give it my all.”
Coach Chris' motto is “Empty the tank! All 100s- No 50s or 20s!” and he hopes that his motto can be a big inspiration to all his students, including Fields.
“It means to me to basically give it your best effort no matter what you are doing and no matter what road blocks come ahead of you, give all 100%,” Fields said.
