“Those Who Wish Me Dead,” first known as a book by Micheal Koryta, has come to life  in a film directed by Taylor Sheridan.

Oscar-winner Angelina Jolie stars as Hannah, a smoke jumper who is still grieving from the loss of the previous three lives she failed to save from a fire when she comes across Conner, played by Finn Little. Conner is a traumatized boy who just witnessed his father’s murder and is now lost in the wilderness with two assassins hunting him. The killers, known as the Blackwell Brothers, are willing to slaughter anyone who gets in their way. The film also stars Nicholas Hoult, Aiden Gillen, Medina Senghore, Tyler Perry, Jake Weber, and Jon Bernthal.

“Those Who Wish Me Dead” is a movie based on the well-known novel by Michael Koryta. Koryta is an author who is a compelling storyteller as well is a fantastic writer. From the first sentence of “Those Who Wish Me Dead,” readers fall in love with the book. It feels as if the characters are living, breathing people that the reader should care about. His setting is like a place they visit and stay, but a while after they decide to leave because they are scared. There are many nerve-jangling, sharp moments that readers will not want to miss. This film is a must see for fans of Koryta’s novel.

Like many movies that are based off of books, “Those Who Wish Me Dead” is set to run much the same way the book does, but with a few minor changes necessary to translate the novel to the movie screen. Koryta also plays his role behind the scenes being a screenwriter on the movie as well.

Like a lot of movies that are coming out amid the pandemic, “Those Who Wish Me Dead” can be seen both in the theater and on HBO Max, following its May 14 release.
