Jewish Heritage month is a month-long event celebrating Jewish Americans. Here are some ways to celebrate, while also following COVID-19 guidelines.

Listen to a podcast or read a book

One of the best ways to celebrate is to get to know the history behind Jewish Heritage Month. Listening to podcasts or reading books about this topic will help one understand the history. The more the topic of Jewish heritage is discussed, the more recognition it gets. Discussion encourages others to learn more about the topic if it interests them.

Support Jewish organizations or businesses

If there’s a little shop around the neighborhood that’s Jewish owned, support it. Show love by not only buying Jewish products, but overall supporting Jewish business. Going online and looking for Jewish shops to support can be good too. Social media platforms like Instagram or Facebook promote self-owned small businesses. Some businesses in Indianapolis are Shapiro’s Delicatessen, Amelia’s, and Milktooth.

Make a Jewish dish

Expanding one’s food palate and trying a Jewish dish is the tastiest way to celebrate Jewish heritage. Look up a quick and easy recipe that is suitable for anyone to try. One of the more popular dishes in Jewish culture is called challah. Challah is the bread that is made for important Jewish holidays.

Go on a virtual museum tour

With the ongoing pandemic and people wanting to enjoy normal activities safely, a lot of virtual programs have opened up, including virtual museum tours. By searching up local museums and looking into Jewish art, there’s a lot to experience, just as if it were an actual tour at the museum. Virtual museum trips are a great way to stay safe and enjoy learning about Jewish artists. Virtual tours can be found at thejewishmuseum.org, worldjewishtravel.org, and mjhnyc.org

Watch a Jewish TV show or movie

Recently, there has been a rise in the popularity of streaming services including Disney+ and Hulu. With a quick search, dozens of Jewish shows can be found and watched. This is an easy and fun way to support Jewish Heritage month, as well as a chance to get hooked on a new show. It’s also a way to spread awareness by watching with friends and family.

Learn a Jewish Word or Explore Hewbrew

Impress friends by learning Hebrew or just learn a word from it. Either way, it’s a win-win situation because something new is learned and it supports Jewish Heritage month. Try to get family or friends to learn too and make it a hobby.
